Why Adult Summer Camps Are Having a Moment

Something shifted. Adults are going back to summer camp, and they're not apologizing for it.

Adult summer camps are having a moment, and it's not hard to understand why. For decades, summer camp was a rite of passage reserved for kids. You went, grew up, and then you moved on. Somewhere between the mortgage and the meeting schedules, camp became a memory. But in the last few years something has shifted. Adult summer camps are growing — fast — and the people showing up aren't escaping their lives. They're investing in them.

Yelp's 2025 Trend Forecast put a number on it: searches for "adult camps" skyrocketed by 347%. Here's why.

The burnout economy is real.

Chronic stress, an always-on culture, and screen addiction have created a generation of adults who are exhausted in a way that a vacation doesn't fix. A beach resort with a swim-up bar is still a screen-filled, alcohol-lubricated version of the same overstimulated life. Adult summer camps offer something fundamentally different: a structured break from the noise with activities that actually require your presence. You can't wake surf and scroll at the same time.

We are starving for genuine connection.

Study after study confirms it — loneliness is at epidemic levels across every age group. Adult summer camps create the conditions for real connection that modern life rarely does. Shared meals, enjoyable activities, and deep belly laughs at things that don't need to be documented. The friendships formed at camp happen fast because the environment strips away the performance of everyday social life.

Nature is the intervention.

The research on nature immersion is unambiguous. Time outdoors — away from artificial light, constant noise, and digital stimulation — measurably restores the nervous system. Adult summer camps built around lakes, forests, and open air aren't just scenic. They are physiologically restorative in ways that urban wellness culture can only approximate.

Adults need play — and most of us have forgotten how.

Play is not frivolous. It is neurologically essential. It builds creativity, resilience, and emotional regulation. Somewhere along the way adults were told that play was something you aged out of. Camp is the antidote to that lie. Whether it's learning to wake surf for the first time or trying a yoga pose that humbles you, adult summer camps give people permission to be beginners again — and that permission is quietly transformative.

The format works.

A weekend or week-long structured experience with a clear start and end date is easier to commit to than an open-ended wellness goal. Adult summer camps remove the decision fatigue of planning and replace it with a curated experience. You show up. The rest is taken care of.

Some call it nostalgia. I call it a correction.

Adults are returning to camp because somewhere they remember that life felt better when it was simpler, more physical, more connected, and more fun.

Adult Summer Camp + Nature

This is why we created Camp No Distractions. An adult summer camp on Lake Allatoona, one hour from Atlanta. Wake surfing, yoga, real food, genuine connection, and zero phones.

Come find out for yourself this summer.
